Jane Harrison - Standing for Newark Castle Ward
Hello neighbours. You may recognise me from walking my two dogs around Castle Ward (I’m the one with the plastic bag and litter picker!) I regularly speak to many Ward residents and I know and understand, the concern over the high level of drug issues and increasing anti-social behaviour that we are experiencing.
This is my first time standing as a councillor but i can say that I do not back down. Should there be a resident with a valid issue, i will fight their corner. I can assure you that I will be at the forefront of local government meetings, working tirelessly on your behalf for the right outcome.
I have a passion to make Castle Ward a better place for its residents. I am a resident myself, living on King Street. I have lived in Newark since 1991 ( apart from a 4-year break to Lincoln until I saw the light and moved back to Newark). I am now in my third term as the Chair of the Newark Civic Trust, as a direct result of my 20-year career in the heritage sector. I play an active role in local planning applications and am resurrecting the Civic Trust’s “Conservation Watch” where I shall be submitting a monthly list to NSDC’s conservation team, to highlight building in need of care and attention.
I am a deeply imbedded and invested in this community and have a broad and diverse range of experience. Back in my 20’s I was a special constable pounding the beat of East London, an experience that has left me with a legacy of tenacity and perseverance. I have also spent over two decades in senior commercial management roles, recently retiring from Bassetlaw District Council. I now volunteer for Home Start, helping families with young children.
I love this market town and I have been and shall continue to be, outspoken about the regeneration of the Market Place and Newark generally. I know that flooding is a major issue in Newark and particularly Castle Ward and I will be very active as a Councillor to push to improve protection in the future and be on hand during a flooding crises, working in a positive manner with all agencies to keep residents safe.
I will not and never shall, make point to disrespect another political party - it achieves nothing and certainly does not help you as a local resident of Castle Ward. My mantra over many years and one for which I am known:
LET’S GET ON WITH IT AND GET THINGS DONE!
